7 Reasons Parents Love Matcha

You’re not going to believe this, but if you’re a parent, we know this for sure: your child is going to love matcha green tea, and you’re going to love what it does for her.

Don’t be alarmed:

We’re not asking you to load your little one up with caffeine, that’s not it at all! And though matcha green tea does contain caffeine, it’s the other components hidden within, including L-theanine that balances out the stimulating effects of caffeine, that are giving this trendy consumer product the reputation it deserves.

Grown on bushes in the shade, which increases the chlorophyll content, the young matcha leaf is loaded with nutrients, most notably antioxidants. Studies have revealed that regular consumption of matcha can lower LDL cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and even decrease one’s risk of developing cancer.


Why Matcha Powder is so good for you and your kids:

  1. An antioxidant-rich diet helps stave off a plethora of potentially life-threatening conditions. (Raw fruits, green vegetable, and raw, dark chocolate are other antioxidant-rich foods.)
  2. Green tea boasts the most beneficial kind of antioxidant—catechins, specifically EGCg, or epigallocatechin gallate, prized for its anti-cancer properties.
  3. L-theanine … this is the magic amino acid that gives matcha green tea its calming quality, and likely the reason Japanese Zen Buddhist monks and Chinese Taoists drank matcha prior to meditating. Practitioners could (and still do!) feel calmly alert (not an oxymoron here), which allows for longer, more focused meditations.
  4. The high chlorophyll content of matcha leaves gives matcha green tea the ability to help the body detoxify from chemical toxins that accumulate with normal wear and tear.
  5. Studies have shown that the catechins in matcha provide antibacterial properties.
  6. Loaded with nutrients: vitamins A & C, calcium, iron, and potassium, amongst others.
  7. Consuming L-theanine also helps the body make its own dopamine and serotonin, which can enhance mood, and (great for parents of little ones) give kids a natural, gentle chill pill.

How can you actually use this?

1.5 cups Pamela’s  Baking & Pancake Mix

1/4 cup almond meal

1.5 Tbls Buddha Teas Matcha Powder

2 ripe bananas

2 (preferably organic) eggs

2 Tbls honey

1/4 cup liquid coconut oil

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Matcha #1


  1. In a medium to large size bowl, combine dry ingredients, and whisk until evenly blended.
  2. Place all wet ingredients into a blender or food processor and mix just until banana is smooth; you don’t want this mixture to be lumpy.
  3. Pour wet ingredients into the dry, and mix until blended well, making sure not to over-blend.
  4. Bake at 350° F for one hour, or until top of loaf is golden brown, and toothpick comes out clean.

You can serve warm with butter, include in school lunches, and store in freezer for a healthy, ready-to-go breakfast or desert. For convenience and longevity, after completely cooled, slice entire loaf, and wrap individual slices in a freezer-friendly manner. Pull out what you think you’ll want for the next day and store in fridge overnight. Heat up in toaster oven for several minutes, or include in school lunches cold, knowing by the time your kiddo gets to lunch, the slice will have warmed up a bit.
