In the Know

We bet you wouldn’t drink a tea named poison gooseberry would you? However, we’re pretty sure that the common, important Ayruvedic herb Ashwagandha (one of its other names) might lure you to the kitchen to brew a cup. Especially if you knew its healing history, current popularity, and rich, nourishing flavor.

What Exactly is Ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha is a native Indian 5,000 year old short, perennial shrub, whose Latin name (Withania somnifera) translates to “sleep-inducing.” Aptly, this pungent tasting herb is often prescribed to calm the nerves. It’s a known adaptogen, which means it’s really good for helping the body adapt to stress. Traditionally, ashwagandha has been used when children fail to thrive, or the elderly become weak and debilitated. A plethora of physical conditions find relief with ashwahandha, and that’s why it’s so often incorporated into a variety of health regimens.

What Does Ashwagandha Taste Like?

Made using a single tea bag per eight ounces 205° F water, and steeped from 3-6 minutes, you’ll find that Buddha Teas Ashwagandha Tea tastes quite earthy, somewhat pungent, and slightly creamy, due to the powdery nature of the herb. Some like to add a bit of sweetener, such as honey or maple syrup. You can also add a complimentary tea to your cup of Ashwagandha Tea, such as Anise Seed Tea, or even Chai Tea. Experiment! With so many health benefits hidden in this tea, you’ve got every reason to drink Ashwagandha Tea regularly, and creatively.

Review Title: Don’t need caffine

Review by Karenon October 12, 2018
I’ve been a morning coffee drinker but now with ashwagandha tea I don’t need that extra caffine. It’s is a much better energizer without the caffine!

Review Title: Not for those with thyroid issues

Review by Barbaraon March 6, 2018
I liked the tea and its calming effect, so passed the boxes I bought on to someone who can enjoy the tea. Thank goodness the box came with complete information and a warning NOT to use it if you take medication for thyroid issues. That would be me, so I cannot drink this particular tea.

Review Title: Worth trying

Review by Lionessathearton January 5, 2018
This was my first time trying ashwagandha and the flavor was unlike anything i can think to describe. It has a very earthy flavor, I'm going out on a limb to describe it as nutty. However i didn't buy it for the flavor, i tried it because i read many reviews about how it strengthens the i-system. And that is exactly what it did for me. I have noticed a significant change in my body and i haven't even finished the box. I only ordered one box, so after shipping i spent around $12, which is a bit pricey in comparison to what i usually spend in my local grocery or health food store. So for that reason i consider this more of a tea that i will drink when i need an i-sysyem boost, as opposed to a daily morning tea. But i will definitely be trying other flavors of the buddha teas
