Bitter Melon Tea Health Benefits

This uncommon tea has been made using fruit and seeds of the bitter melon, also known as the bitter gourd or bitter squash. The bitter melon is a vine like plant that is native to Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. The fruit it produces are similar to cucumbers in size and color, although they are somewhat narrower with a warty, uneven surface. As its name suggests, this fruit is bitter in taste though when brewed into a tea. While some may doctor its taste with sweeteners and other herbs, in many countries, bitter melon is frequently used in food and even prized for its flavor. In Okinawa, bitter melon is known as "goya", and is a popular ingredient in many traditional recipes, even used to make a variety of soft drinks.

Unique and Useful

If the bitter flavor many not seem appealing to you, this potent fruit’s nutrient content is a different story. Bitter melon is packed full of important vitamins and minerals. Drinking a cup of bitter melon tea can provide you with rich amounts of vitamin C and folic acid, as well as vitamin A, E, K, and several other B vitamins. An exceptional source of potassium, bitter melon’s mineral content is equally impressive, with calcium, copper, magnesium, iron and more. What’s more, bitter melon is a natural source of fiber, protein, lutein, and beta carotene. All of these elements provide a great extra incentive for giving bitter melon tea a fair chance.

Review by Warrenon June 26, 2017
My Okinawan-born wife raises her own biter melons here in Virginia. Also tea plants and many herbs. I (cautiously) ordered your bitter melon tea as a surprise for her. She was/is delighted. She loves the composition and purity of the tea before it is well as its actual taste when prepared. Thank you.

She really is a bitter melon "pro"....even has a U.S. patent for using bitter melon in a cosmetic facial preparation..
