In the Know

Hops are the flowers, or seed cones of the perennial hops plant, also known as Humulus lupulus. Though primarily used as a bittering, stabilizing agent in beer, the medicinal contributions of hops cannot be ignored. Its antibacterial effects against less desirable microorganisms often created in the brewing process further encouraged early brewers to include hops in their beer-making process. Today, hops is sometimes used to flavor mead, a Christmas soda in Sweden, and to create herbal teas such as our high quality herbal brew.

Interesting Notes About Hops Tea

• Supports a healthy digestive system • Relieves symptoms of sleeplessness • Helps treat pain-related conditions • Helps relieve transitional hormone issues • May help regulate blood sugar • Can help calm anxiety and related conditions

How to Brew Hops Tea

Make sure the water is hot enough to extract the flavor and benefits, about 205°. As this tea does finish bitter, steep time depends on personal preference, so taste your tea as it steeps to determine for yourself how you prefer the finished flavor. We suggest a 2-5 minute steep.

What Does Hops Tea Taste Like?

Hops Tea is known to have a strong, bitter flavor, which some find invigorating and refreshing. When cooled, Buddha Teas Hops Tea tastes remarkably like a potent hoppy beer, and some like to prepare it cold to enjoy in place of beer. Experiment with a spritzer machine to enjoy the taste of a hops-heavy carbonated beverage without the alcohol.

I have a cup before bed. Very relaxing. Taste is bitter, but it grows on you. Also thinking of mixing with other teas that have a floral essence.

Review Title: Like it cold

Review by Michaelon June 15, 2020
I bought the Hops Tea because I am giving up beer. It was a nice substitute, but definitely make sure you don’t steep it for too long! It tastes good cold especially. I haven’t tried yet to mix it with other flavors, but that’s my plan.

Review Title: Great

Review by Chuckon August 29, 2019
Great tea to soothe your nerves. All the calming benefits of beer without the calories or the buzz! It is bitter tasting but honey does mellow it a bit. I do wish Buddha Teas offered sample bags of their unique teas, as I and probably many others would try more teas if they did not have to purchase a whole box.

Review Title: Homemade "Hops Water"

Review by Richon May 9, 2019
I brew Hops Tea strong and let it steep for quite a while. After it cools down I refrigerate it and later combine it with SodaStream to make my own very refreshing soda - no sugar, no carbs or calories.

It also is a great mixer for mixed drinks - while I needed to cut carbs and calories, its great to still get a hint of that IPA taste in a nice cold, bubbly drink.

Review Title: Delicious and good for me

I drink Hops Tea to help with hot flashes and women problems. Hops contains a small amount of estrogen. So that small amount of estrogen really helps me.

Review Title: Non-IPA Lover

Review by Melissaon July 3, 2017
I wanted to try hops tea for health reasons of horrible menopause. Only ordered one box because I really, really don't like hoppy beers. While the flavor is quite bitter for me, it is manageable with agave or honey. I haven't noticed any change in sleep but I do feel more relaxed after drinking a cup. It does seem to be helping decrease flashes. Ordering more!
